Spacious extension of 1960’s family home
Overview
Additional socialising space - for both kids and adults - motivated this active family to reconfigure and extend their detached property.
With the need for another bedroom and more room to conduct their busy family life, the clients wanted to transform their family home into a space that was both open and organised.
The creation of a split-level design at the rear of the property creates different zones and prevents the need for additional internal walls. A utility room, muddy boots entrance, large kitchen, dining space and social area cater for the needs of the whole family and their dog.
Interesting architecture and contemporary design are at the heart of this brief, and the stepped design – to the front and the rear – maintains visual interest and surprise throughout. Crisp render, charred larch and cedar cladding honour the era of the property, while the fresh minimalist render creates a stark backdrop to the warmer timber tones.
