ProjectsLong Ridge House

Scandinavian redesign of 1970’s bungalow

Overview

Along a private road in Grindleford, Long Ridge House provides plentiful entertainment space with expansive views of the Peak District.

A large roof extension to create a luxury master suite was the key to upgrading Long Ridge House from a tired bungalow to a spacious home that embraces the natural surroundings. The extension provides plenty of space to entertain, while the two-storey stairwell with glazed atrium makes the most of the well-established garden and breathtaking vistas of the Peaks.

Living in the heart of the countryside, the client has a passion for the outdoors which meant a muddy boots room, utility space, dog washing facility and gym were all integral to the redesign.

Wood is central to the architecture – both internally and externally – as the owner is Scandinavian, selecting cedar and charred larch to complement the existing stonework. The client’s passion for their native sauna culture resulted in a beautifully tailored building that encapsulates their unique interests.
